Northern Nurseries, a division of Robert Baker Companies and a network of eight horticultural wholesale distribution centers, is seeking full time Inside Sales Representatives for a career with the largest landscape supply company in the Northeast.

Summary: This position will focus on providing all aspects of customer service at the distribution center. This position is responsible for building strong relationships and understanding the needs of all customers. Special emphasis will be on those customers who are assigned by the Site Manager and targeted as a priority for potential sales. The position will require frequent interaction with the Site Manager, other sales personnel at the site, General Manager, purchasing department, and the customer service personnel at the Robert Baker Company.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Handles incoming customer calls, greets customers, determines their needs, writes orders, arranges for the loading of the customer’s vehicle, and overall, ensures that the customer has a positive experience that exceeds their expectations.
  • Solicit quoting opportunities from the accounts that were assigned , as well as responding in a timely manner to all customer requests for a quote. Works with the Site Manager, General Manager, and purchasing department to maximize sales and profit margin opportunities.
  • Works within the margin guidelines established by the Site Manager and General Manager.
  • On occasion you will be directed to work with the customer service personnel at the Robert Baker Company and/or Medford Nurseries should it be deemed necessary to secure the order for the Robert Baker Companies as a whole, of which Northern Nurseries is a part.
  • Locates product by interacting with the purchasing department to fulfill the requests of the customers.
  • In addition to answering customer inquiries, initiates customer contact by telephone selling, recommends substitutions, and solicit add-on sales.
  • Schedules deliveries and direct shipments. Also tags/secures material so it is available for delivery or pick up per the customer’s request.
  • Provides technical support to the customers when necessary, or per their request, which on occasion will require going to their job-sites or place of business.
  • Actively participates in local industry trade association meetings and trade shows.
  • Provides support and back up to the outside sales team including assisting them with quoting, sourcing, technical support, communicating availability and quality, customer complaints, and scheduling and tracking shipments.
  • Assists in monitoring site standards by communicating any deficiencies to the site (irrigation, spacing, disease or insect problems, debris, plant quality, signage, etc.)
  • Assists the Site Manager with markdowns by determining perceived value and recommending items that should be considered for markdowns, site specials, and promotions.
  • Assists with merchandising and impulse displays in high traffic areas including the showroom – ensures that signage is current and accurate and that we are changing displays on a regular basis to promote specials, seasonal items, color, etc.
  • Participates in training activities to become thoroughly educated product lines available through Northern Nurseries.
  • Other duties that are assigned by the Site Manager.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Retail, wholesale, or distribution related sales and/or operations experience within the nursery or landscape industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of the horticulture industry.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with seasonal work demands.
  • Ability to work independently yet take a role in a team-oriented structure.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and listening skills.

Salary:  $60,000 per year
