Landscape Garden Center Inside Sales – White River Junction, VT

Northern Nurseries, a division of The Robert Baker Companies, is a network of horticultural wholesale distribution centers. We are seeking a full-time, year-round Inside Sale Representative for a career with the largest landscape supply company in the Northeast.

We provide a one-stop shopping experience for landscapers, where they can select all the plants and related goods to complete residential or commercial landscapes. Northern Nurseries has the largest selection of trees, evergreens, flowering shrubs, and perennials in the Northeast. In addition, we offer a large selection of pavers, grass seed, fertilizers, soil conditioners and more. We are one of the fastest growing companies in the industry.

Overview: This position will focus on providing all aspects of customer service at the Distribution Center. The person in this position will be responsible for building strong relationships & understanding the needs of all customers at the Distribution Center with special emphasis on those customers assigned by the Site Manager and targeted as a priority due to potential. The position will require frequent interaction with the Site Manager, other sales personnel at the site, General Manager, Purchasing Department, and the customer service personnel at the Robert Baker Company and Medford Nursery.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle incoming customer calls, greet customers, determine their needs, write orders, arrange for the loading of their vehicle, and ensures they have an experience that exceeds expectations.
  • Actively solicit quotes from accounts that are assigned to you, as well as respond in a timely manner to all customer requests for a quotation.
  • Work with the Site Manager, General Manager, and Purchasing Department to maximize sales and profit margin opportunities.
  • Work within margin guidelines established by the Site Manager and General Manager.
  • On occasion you will be directed to work with the customer service personnel at the Robert Baker Company and/or Medford Nurseries should it be deemed necessary to secure the order for the Robert Baker Companies as a whole, of which Northern Nurseries is a part.
  • Locate product and interact with the Purchasing Department to fulfill the requests of the customers.
  • Answer customer inquiries, initiate customer contact by making proactive sales calls, recommends substitutions, and solicit add-on sales.
  • Schedule deliveries and direct shipments.
  • Tag and secure material to be available for delivery or pick up per customer’s request.
  • Provide technical support to customers when necessary or per their request, which on occasion will require going to their job sites or place of business.
  • Actively participate in local industry trade association meetings and trade shows.
  • Assist in monitoring site standards by communicating any deficiencies to the Site Manager (irrigation, spacing, disease or insect problems, debris, plant quality, signage, etc.).
  • Assist the Site Manager with markdowns by determining perceived value and recommending items that should be considered for markdowns, site specials, and promotions.
  • Assist with merchandising and impulse displays in high traffic areas including the showroom – ensures that signage is current and accurate and that we are changing displays on a regular basis to promote specials, seasonal items, color, etc.
  • Participates in numerous training activities to become thoroughly educated in all of the product line available through Northern Nurseries.
  • Any other duties that may be reasonably assigned by the Site Manager.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience in retail, wholesale, or distribution related sales and/or operations experience within the nursery or landscape industry.
  • Working knowledge of the horticulture industry.
  • The ability to plan and prioritize activities.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with seasonal work demands.
  • Ability to work independently, yet take a role in a team-oriented structure.

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
